“Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but only one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may win. Everyone who competes in the games exercises selfcontrol in all things. They then do it to receive a perishable wreath, but we an imperishable. Therefore I run in such a way as not without aim; I box in such a way, as not beating the air; but I discipline my body and make it my slave, so that, after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified.” Colossians 4:4–6

SCCS Athletics Distinctives:

At SCCS, our focus on Athletic Distinction goes beyond the sport. Anchored in our school mission of teaching minds and training hearts for God, our goal is to encourage maturity in student athletes through discipline, hard work and conduct that is glorifying to Christ.

We believe athletics provides valuable lessons for students, such as: teamwork, sportsmanship, winning with dignity, losing with grace and the satisfaction of working hard. Our program exists to develop student’s hearts and minds through athletic competition.

What makes athletics at SCCS unique?

Discipleship & Character-building:

Focused on character development and discipleship, our athletic department views sports as an excellent avenue to teach self-discipline, commitment, teamwork and integrity. Our goal is for our athletes to be the same person on the field/court and off the field/court so there is a consistency of who they are in both places.

Role Model Coaches:

Our dedicated, skilled coaches focus on the hearts and minds of our athletes working to build foundations of character that will impact their walk with Christ for life. In addition to strategic plays and athletic skills, coaches purposefully instruct their athletes in Christ-like character and shepherd their hearts.

Athletic Excellence:

At SCCS, student athletes learn the fundamentals of their sport and develop increased ability over time. Within the setting of a smaller school, students have the opportunity to play multiple sports and become more well-rounded athletes. Our athletic teams have worked hard to distinguish themselves amongst strong competition in the area.

Our athletes and coaches work hard to be their best. More than winning or whether a student will participate in their sport at a collegiate level, we hope SCCS athletes will use the platform of athletics to develop their character for Christ and share the gospel. We are equipping students for life beyond high school and beyond the sport.
